Your home page is the most important part of your website. It will help you keep people on your site or make them loose interest. Remember, you have only 15 seconds to capture the interest of your visitors. For this reason, we have provided you with many options for your home page.
If you have a Small Business website, you have even more options. As you look at the various options available to you, consider which you find most interesting and appropriate for your business.
There are ten templates with up to three different options per template. This gives the Small Business member roughly 30 ways to configure your home page. Standard member accounts have approximately half that number.
- Here is a lit of things you can have on your home page:
- A primary Text Area for your greeting
- An Image of you or your business
- A horizontally scrolling announcement at the top of the page
- A smaller area that can be used for one of three purposes-
- A smaller Text Area
- Vertically Scrolling Announcements
- Vertically Scrolling Events
Some of these features will change other functions when selected. For example, if you select the Vertically Scrolling Announcements, the regular horizontally scrolling announcements will not be shown. If you select either the Events or 2nd Text Area, the announcements will show at the top of the page.
You can change the layout for these items as well. Also, if you have a Small Business membership, you can choose between vertical and/or horizontal menus.
It needs to be pointed out that selecting vertical menus will result in a narrowing of your page content on some pages. For that reason, the layouts for vertical menus are different from those for horizontal menus. Fortunately, you can see the results of these changes by selecting different options before saving your changes.
There are two things to think about when making your choices. The first is to make your final decision before going live with your site. The other has to do with the 2nd Text Area. If you use this option and enter text into it and then later change how you use this multi-purpose area, your text will not appear on the page.
Do not worry, it is not lost, it just will not show if you change the purpose of this area and you forget to copy your text to the main Text Area, all you have to do is go into Home Page Management and select 2nd Text, edit it and copy it and then paste it to the main part of the home page.
